EAST NEW YORK, BROOKLYN, NEW YORK FALL 2022 | Prof. Laura Gonzalez Fierro This ribbon-like park uses sports and multifunctional pathways to bridge two communities separated by the marginalized, pedestrian-unfriendly Van Sinderen Corridor and the adjacent elevated subway structure. The tiered pathways and sports spaces facilitate organic socialization, physical safety through visibility, and an open greenspace reintroduces once hidden vegetation to promote personala wellbeing, become safe and accessible, and transform a neglected area into one of pride and ownership. This renewal strategy can be applied along further blocks and even extend into other neighborhoods as an extensive network of care.
